China's dark matter probe detects mysterious signals

China's dark matter probe detects mysterious signals Beijing: A Chinese satellite which was sent to the skies to look for evidence of the annihilation or decay of dark matter particles in space has detected unexpected and mysterious signals in its measurement of high-energy cosmic rays, bringing scientists closer to proving the existence of the invisible matter. The mysterious dark matter is believed to comprise a quarter of universe. The satellite, Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), also called Wukong or "Monkey King", has measured more than 3.5 billion cosmic ray particles with the highest energy up to 100 tera-electron-volts (TeV), including 20 million electrons and positrons, with unprecedented high energy resolution, Xinhua reported. Precise measurement of cosmic rays, especially at the very high energy range, are important for scientists to look for traces of dark matter annihilation or decay, as well as to understand the universe's most energetic astr

Apple offices raided in South Korea by police The report says that authorities visited Apple's office and questioned the Cupertino company's business practices. According to a report from a London Metro newspaper, Apple's offices in Seoul, South Korea have been reportedly raided, just ahead of the iPhone X launch in the country. The iPhone X will be available in South Korea and in several Asian countries from November 24. The report says that the raid is likely to raise questions about whether South Korean authorities are trying to hamper the success of the X, which has sold out across the world. Though Apple products are very popular in South Korea, it is the home of several giant tech firms including Samsung and LG. The Metro reports that authorities visited Apple's office and questioned the Cupertino company's business practices. It is also believed that the raid is part of a probe that was launched after Apple took action to address South Korean autho

Huawei to launch 'better' Face ID and Animojis

Huawei to launch 'better' Face ID and Animojis Huawei claims that its own features will be substantially better than Apple's, both in terms of security and usability. One of the most bizarre features of the new iPhone X has been the Animojis. Apple took some of the most popular emojis and made them mimic facial expression of the person using depth sensing front snapper of iPhone X. Taking note of the same, Huawei recently unveiled two technologies which they think are so much better than those on the iPhone X. During a press event for the Honor V10 phablet in China, company executives provided the attendants with a glimpse into the feature line-up of a future Android phone model, revealing that it plans to roll out not only a facial recognition system similar to Face ID but also animated emoji based on this tech that would essentially be a clone of Apple's Animoji. In both cases, However, Huawei claims that its own features will be substantially better than A

NASA's 'Kilopower project' is to test energy source for human crew on Mars

NASA's 'Kilopower project' is to test energy source for human crew on Mars NASA is about to start testing a key energy source that could "empower" human crews on the Mars surface, energising habitats and running on-the-spot processing equipment to transform the Red Planet resources into oxygen, water and fuel. Testing of the Kilopower project is due to start in November and go through early next year, with NASA partnering with the US Department of Energy's (DOE) Nevada National Security Site to appraise fission power technologies, NASA said on Tuesday. "The Kilopower test programme will give us confidence that this technology is ready for space flight development," said Lee Mason from NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate. "We'll be checking analytical models along the way for verification of how well the hardware is working," Mason said. The pioneering Kilopower reactor represents a small and simple approach for

NASA map shows how Earth's climate impacted in 20 years

NASA map shows how Earth's climate impacted in 20 years A new NASA map resulting from 20 years of observing "life" on our home planet has discovered long-term changes across continents and ocean basins. The space-based view of life allows scientists to monitor crop, forest and fisheries health around the globe, NASA said. Satellites measured land and ocean life from space as early as the 1970s. But it was not until the launch of the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) in 1997 that the space agency began what is now a continuous, global view of both land and ocean life. The data visualisation, released this week, captures how Earth was changing with the seasons. "These are incredibly evocative visualisations of our living planet," said Gene Carl Feldman, an oceanographer at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, Maryland. "That's the Earth, that is it breathing every single day, changing with the seasons, respondi

ISRO plans one rocket launch every month for 2018 India plans to have at least one rocket launch every month in 2018 from its spaceport at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh to deploy satellites in orbit, said a top space official on Tuesday. "We are planning to have at least one launch mission a month in 2018 to deploy satellites in the earth's orbit for various applications," said Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar. "For 2018-19 and 2019-20 financial years, we are looking to receive increased budgets from the country in view of the missions," he told media on the sidelines of the inauguration of a Gallery on Space Technology at the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum here. ISRO was given a budget of about Rs. 9,000 crore for 2017-18.A The first of the missions ahead is likely to be the launch of Cartosat-2E remote-sensing spacecraft along with 28 nano and micro-satellites in early January if delayed from De

Students are being forced to work overtime to help Apple meet iPhone X demand: Report Apple supplier Foxconn has reportedly employed thousands of students to assemble iPhone X who are forced to work overtime as the Cupertino-based company struggles to meet the demand after production delays. According to The Financial Times, students in the age group 17-19 were hired as interns in September and were told to work at the assembling unit in Zhengzhou, China, to work for three months to get "work experience in order to graduate". "The work has nothing to do with our studies. We are being forced by our school to work here," Yang who assembles 1,200 iPhone X cameras a day was quoted as saying in the report . She is among a group of 3,000 students from Zhengzhou Urban Rail Transit School who are working at a local Foxconn facility. "Apple and Foxconn acknowledged they had discovered cases of student interns working overtime and said they were taking remed
